Anne Marie Graham fled Austria as a teenager in 1938. Making her new home in Australia, she determined early on that her art would turn aside from darkness and celebrate the good and beautiful in life. This she does in oil paintings of a deceptive simplicity, works whose subtle wit and gentle good humor shine from their delicate, highly finished surfaces. Graham is known primarily as a lyrical figurative painter, but the landscape is always an actor in her pictures of people--always worked, tended, settled, cultivated, inhabited.
The paintings reproduced in this notecard set are from the series A Garden for All Seasons--a study of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne: Exotic Plants, Rainforest with Bats, Queensland Spear Lily, and Palms. Twenty full-color 5 x 7" blank notecards (five each of four styles) with white envelopes in a decorative box. ISBN 0-7649-3712-X.
