Bulletin of the International String Figure Association

String figures are designs woven on the hands with a loop of string, and their astonishing complexity both in construction and meaning is the subject of the Museum of Jurassic Technology exhibit "Fairly Safely Venture: Cat's Cradles and their Venerable Collectors."

Founded in 1978 by Dr. Hiroshi Noguchi, a Japanese mathematician, and Rev. Philip Noble, and Anglican missionary stationed in Papua New Guinea, the primary goal of the International String Figure Association is to gather and distribute string figure knowledge.
