FAQ

Beergeek.biz limits shipments to those 24 states/possessions in which interstate shipment and importation of alcohol is permitted by state authorities. These are states in which Beergeek.biz may ship to you and you may import beer into your state for your personal consumption. If your state is not indicated in the list of 2 letter state abbreviations below then we will not ship beer to your state. Non-alcoholic beer can be shipped to any state. For more information see: Why don't you ship to my state?, below.

CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IA, LA, MN, NE, NM, NV, NH, NC, ND, OH, OR, SC, TX, VA, WA, WV, WI, .

Ohio residents will receive an Ohio Excise and Sales tax self-reporting form with their order. Please note that all tax reporting and payment is the responsibility of the purchaser.

Beergeek.biz no longer ships to residents of Wyoming by order of the Wyoming Liquor Control board. Please accept our apologies.

#1 Why can't I find the beer I want on your site?

The geek lives in Illinois and sells every beer that is available to him there. We're working hard to add more beers everyday but if you don't see it then that beer is not available to us at this time.

#2 Are there case discounts?

All our product is sold by the bottle. There are no quantity discounts.

#3 What will my shipping charges be and how long will it take to get my beer?

The exact charges will be calculated and added when you check out. The following is an approximation of your charges based on items ordered and shipping destination. Order processing takes about 4 days (typically) and delivery time is shown below. FYI....shipping charges may change according to the weight of your order. Fedex charges us so in turn we have to charge you.

For: IL,MN,IA,WI 6-12 items $11.00. For each additional 1-12 items $10.00. Delivery time: 1-2 days.

OH,ND,CO,FL,GA,SC,NC,NE,VA,LA,NM,WA 6-12 items $13.00. For each additional 1-12 items $11.00. Delivery time: 3-5 days.

CA,OR,WA,NH,ID,NV,TX 6-12 items $15.00. For each additional 1-12 items $12.00. Delivery time: 4-6 days.

Each shipping box holds twenty 12oz items and twelve 330ml+ items. YOU ARE CHARGED PER BOX. We suggest ordering in multiples of 12. 13 items, on a per-bottle basis, is an expensive freight charge.

#3a Why are freight charges so expensive?

1. The bottles and beer are heavy. 2. Oil prices rise and fall but the fuel surcharges are forever! Fed-Ex tacks on a surcharge. 3. Each box gets a 21+ signature tag at $3.25 a pop.

#3a How will I know my order has been shipped?

We'll generate an e-mail via Yahoo Store that indicates your tracking numbers with Fed-Ex. If you didn't get that e-mail then it is likely your spam filter intercepted it. The Geek won't take the heat for e-mail you didn't get. We strongly suggest you turn off your spam filter and take 2 minutes to delete the junk. You'll be surprised at the amount of legitimate mail your filter is stopping and you'll probably see our shipping confirmation too.

At times your order may be "oversold" meaning we may be unable to fill your order to completion or the quantity may be larger than our stock on-hand. In these cases we make every effort to fill 100% of your order. If you don't get a shipping confirmation right away--don't panic-- we are working to complete your order.

It is important to note that Fed-Ex will make 3 attempts to deliver your beer. After 3 failed attempts the package will be returned to us. In this case the value of the beer will be refunded but the freight charges still apply and Beergeek.biz will charge an additional $10.00 restocking fee.

Fed-Ex no longer allows Beergeek.biz to re-direct orders once shipped. It is of critical importance that the "ship to" address you have indicated is the address you want the package to be delivered

Any request for a no-signature porch/hall delivery will be ignored. We won't do that--this is beer you're ordering. Ship your beer to a work or home address where someone will be available to sign for it in person.

#4 Why don't you ship to my state

The geek ships to states that are referred to as "reciprocal states" (states that have an agreement to allow shipment of alcohol between them) and so-called free states that allow their residents to "import" beer and wine for their personal consumption. Although some states have recently allowed residents to import wine (Texas) we will not ship beer to any state not approved under the Fed-Ex alcohol shipping program. As a result the geek is limited to the 23 states shown above. As more states are added to the Fed-Ex alcohol shipping program the geek will open up shipping to those states.

#4a.But the Supreme Court struck down all state laws barring interstate shipment of wine in May 2005.

Yes, but as of that date Fed-Ex was not taking 21+ shipments to any state other than the states listed above. And if you think the states that have restricted shipment in the past are going to take this lying down you should think again. Legislators from Utah to Michigan are busily erecting new barriers like licensing fees, in-state physical presence requirements and laws that require web sites to ship to in-state distributors or retailers who tack on an "acceptance charge" and make you come to a designated location to pick up your package!

If you want to see a good example of this check out the requirements for shipping a bottle of wine to a resident of Pennsylvania. Click Here

Not only does a retailer or winery pay excise taxes in their home state they pay PA excise taxes of 18%, sales taxes of 6%, a $4.50 "handling charge" and then they have to ship it to one of the PA state run stores (not your home).

And you thought Soviet style repression was dead. Ha! It's alive and well in PA.

We are hopeful that more states will see the light and join the reciprocal states although several (Utah, Wyoming) will likely never allow a shipment from the geek or from any similar e-retailer.

Please note: Some web sites/e-retailers will ship to more states and some to all 50 but The Geek will not for now.

An open request to states attorneys general; If your state is listed as a "ship to" state and should not be please contact us via e-mail and we will provide you with an address to which you can send a letter and the geek will cease shipments to residents in your state.

#5 Do you ship to military bases?

No.

#6 Do you ship internationally?

No and apologies to our Canadian neighbors to the North.

#7 How old do I need to be to buy beer from the geek?

21+. and the delivery driver will ask for an I.D before he or she will release the beer to you. We may also ask you to fax or mail a copy of your a drivers license to make sure you're who you say you are. Why? Because we are shipping alcohol and by providing us with this information you are helping us keep our beers out of the hands of minors.

A note to all minors (in this case anyone less than 21 years of age). Please don't test us. We are not kidding. All boxes are shipped signature required and are plainly marked as "alcohol inside" by Fed-Ex. The Fed-Ex driver will not leave the package on your front porch. If you can't sign for the box then it is going to come back to us and the Geek will make every effort to contact parents or guardians and local law enforcement authorities just to make sure they are aware of your attempt to obtain alcohol--underage.

#8 On the order form you asked for my age but I don't want to tell you. Do I have to? Absolutely, and we won't ship without it. The geek provides all order information to local authorities when minors attempt to place an order and lie about their age.

#9 Some of the beers shown don't have prices or an order button. What's up widat?

If you have to ask you can't afford it! But seriously, we're probably temporarily out of stock or it may be a seasonal product. Give us week to scream at our suppliers and then try again.

#10 Why can't I buy Bud Light, Corona or other popular beers?

Because they are widely available to everyone except for folks in a dry county or two in Kentucky. Our mission is to offer quality beers that may not be available to you locally. The Geek encourages you to patronize your local purveyor of quality beer for those beers that are available in your area. They are likely to be less expensive than the same beer we are offering online and less of a hassle for you to purchase. If you have to drive 100 miles to buy a bottle of your favorite Czech pils or English Ale then we're here for you.

#11 Can I return any of the beer I buy? No.

#12 Will I have to pay sales tax?

Only if you live in Illinois. We'll charge a sales tax of 7.75%. There is no sales tax on beer shipped to any other state...yet.

#13 Can I buy just 1 bottle?

Sorry No. The geek requires a 6 item minimum order. Mix and match till your heart's content but it needs to be 6 or more total bottles. The freight charge is bad enough and it would be ridiculous on very small quantities.

#14 Do you take phone orders.

No, sorry. Our online store is a very secure Yahoo store. With thousands of successful deliveries under our belt we can say we've never had problem with this method of commerce.

#15 Can I send beer I buy as gift to an address other than my own?

Sure, but again the delivery driver will ask the receiver to provide a valid I.D. which proves they are 21+ and we may ask for more information from you to make sure the transaction is legitimate.

Please note that you can buy beer from any state or nation on the planet where you may live (special thanks to our friends in the U.K.) but the Geek can only ship to the 23 states shown above.

All information provided to the Geek is held in complete confidence. The Geek does not sell or provide your information to anyone outside of Beergeek.biz. After all he's a geek...not a weasel.
